Situated some 30 kilometres from Bordeaux and touching the Saint Emilion appellation, the Côtes de Castillon benefits from a privileged geographical location. It is in the heart of this appellation that Domaine du Plantey produces this fabulous wine that is true to its terroir. The blue clay and iron ore soils allow the blend here to shine in this great 2014 vintage. The vintage itself allowed the harvest to be healthy, balanced and produced a remarkable wine. Vinification here was gentle in order to not over extract the tannins and the ageing in the cellar aimed to allow the fruit to shine through. Just a small amount of oak is used here so that the tannins are harmonious and not dominating. The nose is elegant, and ripe dark fruits carress the palate with a backbone of spice and toasty vanilla. A supple, round, fruity wine with superb freshness at the end.
Best served until 2018 and will age well until 2020.
