The Domaine du Bois des Dames belongs to the Meffre family since 3 generations. This 100-hectare estate was named after the thick woods of green oak that once covered the land and which today is devoted entirely to vineyards. These woods belonged to the ladies» (Dames) who were part of a convent, Couvent de Prébayon, in the hills above Gigondas. Thus the name «Bois des Dames». In 1957, Gabriel Meffre with his son began to reconstitute the estate by buying the entirety of the dispersed parcels, an undertaking which lasted over 20 years.
A vast alluvial terrace overlaid with chalky pebbles dating from the quaternary period. They rest partly on blue clay from the Pliocene, partly on saffre sandstone, ensuring that moisture reaches the roots of the vines and enables them to continue growing during the summer drought. Méditerranean climate influenced by the Mistral wind.
