CUMMINS ROAD - Pinot Noir - Oregon
CUMMINS ROAD - Pinot Noir - Oregon - Yamhill-Carlton, Oregon, USA
Black currant, mid-palate lift with cola nut.
The 2016 vintage was a warm, sunny year with little rain. It was set to be another hot one (like 2014 and 2015) before things cooled off in the first week of September. In the weeks right before harvest there was a cooling off of highs in the 70’s, slowing down the ripening process. The increased hang time made a huge difference in flavor development.

Product Description
Description
Christmas cookie spice and campfire smoke give way to a deep, red plum followed by a lift of nectarine notes. The cold soak after picking and partial whole cluster fermentation give the wine a deep ruby colour and leathery tannin that rounds out the finish. Vintage in image may vary. Refer to wine facts for current vintage.

Critique Review
A fresh array of ripe cherries and berries here with an edge of kirsch. The palate has a smoothly approachable feel with plush, supple and mellow tannins. Drink now. Screw cap.

Vineyard Info
Merriman Vineyard is an east facing, sustainably farmed vineyard sitting at the top of Cummins Ridge in Carlton at an elevation of 550 ft. Established in 1999 on an east ridge facing Mt. Hood and the town of Carlton, this dry-farmed vineyard quickly established itself by producing low yielding, deeply flavored fruit. The grapes are hand harvested and cultivated, and planted to Dijon, Pommard and Wadenswil clones. As the vineyard is non-irrigated, it trains the roots to go deeper into the soil. The soil is ancient, oceanic sediment that drains quickly, making it ideal for winegrape growing. The Chehalem Mountains to the north, and the Dundee Hills to the east establish a rain shadow over the vineyard, where cloud cover is diminished and sunlight reaching the vineyards is increased. Since planting in 1999, we have kept yields to a minimum in order to maximize ripening and flavor. We use sustainable agricultural methods and were LIVE certified in 2008.
